Why OEKO-TEX Certification Matters

All our clothing is OEKO tex certified. Here's why we believe this certification is so important and what it means for you.

Not All "Organic" is Truly Toxin-Free

Many people assume that if a fabric is labeled "organic," it's automatically free from harmful chemicals. However, this isn't always the case. Even organic cotton can undergo chemical processing that introduces toxins into the final product.

That's why at HolisticAF, we've chosen to prioritize OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certification, ensuring that every component of our shirts is rigorously tested for safety.

What is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100?

OEKO-TEX is a globally recognized certification system that guarantees textiles are free from harmful substances. This includes not only the fabric but also threads, dyes, and other materials used in production. When you see the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 label, it means that every part of the product has been tested for chemicals that could pose risks to your health.

What Does OEKO-TEX Test For?

  • Pesticides (commonly used in non-organic cotton farming)
  • Heavy metals (such as lead and cadmium, which can be absorbed through skin contact)
  • Phthalates (harmful plasticizers often found in synthetic fabrics)
  • Formaldehyde (a common toxin used in wrinkle-resistant treatments)
  • Flame retardants (often linked to hormone disruption)
  • Other toxic chemicals that can cause skin irritation, allergies, or more serious health effects

Why We Chose OEKO-TEX Over Organic Cotton (For Now)

While we love the idea of using 100% organic cotton, we also recognize that organic certification doesn’t necessarily mean toxin-free. Many organic textiles are still treated with chemicals during processing that aren’t disclosed.

Our goal at HolisticAF is to offer truly clean, skin-safe clothing. By choosing an OEKO-TEX certified cotton tee, we ensure that:

  • The fabric is ethically sourced and produced.
  • The shirt is free from harmful chemicals at every stage.
  • It meets our strict holistic health standards for purity and sustainability.

What About the Future?

We’re actively working with our production partners to source a 100% organic cotton option that also meets OEKO-TEX standards. As soon as we find the right fit—one that aligns with our commitment to both purity and sustainability—we’ll make the switch.

If you're passionate about wearing organic clothing, stay tuned! We’ll be launching an organic, toxin-free version in the future. But for now, you can rest assured that you're wearing clothing that is safe and healthy to wear.

Plus....When the time does come that we find an organic partner that also meets our strict non toxic standards. If you’ve already purchased a tee from us, we’ll be offering an exclusive discount for early supporters to upgrade when the time comes.

The Bottom Line

  • Organic isn't always toxin-free—OEKO-TEX certification guarantees safety.
  • Our current tees are ethically produced, free from harmful substances, and skin-safe.
  • We’re committed to improving and will launch a fully organic, OEKO-TEX-certified option as soon as we find the perfect fit.
  • However for now. You can still rest assured that you're wearing clothing that is safe and healthy to wear.

Thank you for supporting HolisticAF and our mission to create truly clean, conscious clothing!
